Our First Roll on Center Street

Oh Craps!

Before we signed a contract to buy this house, we met with Sea Bright’s Zoning Officer, Tangolics, to inquire about any flooding history. Her response? The only problematic flooding was that of the Storm of ’92. And, she assured us that it was a “rarity.” Since we could not obtain any flood claim history, and it was not included in the seller’s disclosure, we believed her. Also, the current homeowner didn’t really volunteer any “information.” However, after our house inspection, we knew there could be some flooding concerns, but we didn’t anticipate 3 times a month! The bottom line is that Borough was well aware that there were at least 6 houses continually flooding, because they weren’t elevated.

The Borough allowed numerous permits to be pulled on a house that suffered repetitive flooding — without enforcing local ordinances. WOWZERS!

Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.
